Overview of LAYR modules

The LAYR platform is made up of independent, combinable modules. Each module is a distinct, targeted value offering that can stand alone or be combined with others to build a custom solution. Modules adapt based on the user’s role — either a supplier (an asset owner) or an offtaker (someone who procures capacity). This means each module is not a separate product per role; it is a single product with a role-based interface and set of capabilities.

Tier 1: Foundational modules

These are the starting points for connecting to and interacting with the LAYR platform.

Module	Name	What it does
LAYR Connect	Asset Gateway	The essential gateway for any physical BESS asset to enter the LAYR ecosystem. Handles integration with asset data systems (IoT boxes) and provides a digital interface into the asset’s operations.
LAYR Control	Virtual Dispatch	Empowers asset owners to have their asset controlled via LAYR, unlocks disaggregation, and supports prequalification and balancing group onboarding. For offtakers, enables direct scheduling and control of virtual battery assets (vBs) within the platform.
LAYR Ledger	Transparent Financial Operations	Handles all invoicing and financial reconciliation. Included by default with any revenue-generating module.
LAYR Develop	Project Lifecycle Support	A dedicated portal for the BESS development process — playbooks, how-to guides, and step-by-step support from concept through commissioning.

Tier 2: Core commercialisation modules

These modules provide the primary pathways for generating revenue, acquiring and optimising capacity, or pre-operational financial assessment.

Module	Name	What it does
LAYR Merchant	Performance-Driven Asset Management	Access to terralayr’s exclusive network of designated optimisers. Asset owners allocate capacity to the pool for a profit share; optimisers get guaranteed access to capacity.
LAYR Trade	Dynamic Capacity Auctions	A marketplace for short-to-medium term flexibility capacity via Virtual Battery Auctions (vBAs). Asset owners list auctions; offtakers bid and secure capacity to trade on a short-term basis.
LAYR Toll	Long-Term Capacity Agreements	Facilitates long-term tolling agreements. Connects supply-side customers offering long-term capacity with demand-side customers seeking to secure it through structured tender processes.

Tier 3: Enhancement and data modules

These modules are not required for core platform functionality but add significant value for specific needs, enhancing the capabilities of other modules.

LAYR Stack	Portfolio Aggregation for Scale	Allows owners of multiple physical assets to group them into larger virtual portfolios, leveraging the full power of terralayr’s aggregation and disaggregation engines.
LAYR Benchmark	Advanced Performance Analytics	Advanced analytics and benchmarking tools. Asset owners see how their optimisers are performing relative to others on the market. Optimisers see where their strategy stands in a market ranking.
LAYR Backtest	Pre-Engagement Performance Assessment	Helps prospective supply-side customers assess the potential financial performance of their assets within LAYR before committing to a full onboarding.
